Onitsha COVID-19 Response Team Commences Second Phase Of Distribution Of Palliatives To Ndi Onicha.

Two thousand Onitsha indigenes are to receive palliatives under the second phase of the distribution scheme  which commenced on Wednesday, June 24,  at Ime Obi Onicha, Ezechima Square Onitsha. It will end on  Saturday July 4, with days assigned to  various quarters that constitute Onicha Ebo Itenani.

Palliative packs which are being distributed   in strict compliance with COVID -19 safety measures  contain  rice, beans, vegetable oil, sachet tomatoes  powdered milk, and a face mask.

Beneficiaries were determined based on such two broad criteria: medical and socio -economic. The medical criterion  applies to persons with physical or mental disability, and chronic illness such as heart / kidney disease, stroke, diabetes, hypertension. Unemployed persons, indigent widows and ladies who are either divorced or separated and lack material support   fall under the socio economic criterion.

His Majesty, Nnaemeka Achebe, Obi of Onitsha (Agbogidi)  witnessed the  distribution process on the first day of the exercise. Also present were representatives of the Anambra State government which included  Dr Albert Okeke, Medical Officer of Health, Onitsha North Local Government Area (LGA) and  Dr JC Ezedinachi, Public Health Director for the LGA. The government representatives stated that their visit  was prompted by news of the novel work of the Onitsha Community  COVID 19 Response Team (OCCRT), hence the  need  to see the Field Operations Workgroup of the OCCRT in action.

Two thousand Onitsha indigenes  received palliatives in  the first phase of the distribution scheme  which ran from Monday, May 18 till Saturday May 23.
