Arrangements have been finalised for a training to prepare volunteers as “Wellbeing Ambassadors” to deliver an Outreach and Sensitisation Programme for Early Prevention and Mitigation of Covid-19 within Onitsha community. Participants will also include Ndi Diokpa and Ime Obi staff. The training which is scheduled to run from Wednesday June 17 to Thursday June 18 , 2020 will be held under the auspices of the Onitsha Community Covid -19 Response Team (OCCRT).
Plans for the training were concluded at a meeting of the Field Operations Working Group supervisors held on Monday June 15, 2020 at Ime Obi .
Kpari Rita Okolonji, Lead of the Field Operations workgroup of the OCCRT, organisers of the training explained that ‘’outcomes expected from this outreach include enabling ndi Onicha to understand basic facts about Corona Virus, and, how the infection is transmitted as well as taking responsibility for appropriate wearing of face masks, hand washing hygiene, social distancing, reporting symptoms early’’.
The Outreach and Sensitisation programme which will run over two months has become necessary as many within the Onitsha community are still non-compliant with regards to the government regulations on COVID 19.
