Onitsha, April 11, 2026 – A new chapter opened for the Onitsha Improvement Union (OIU) on Friday, April 10, as His Majesty, Igwe Nnaemeka Achebe, Agbogidi, inaugurated a fresh Executive Committee at Imeobi Onitsha.

The well-attended ceremony brought together chiefs, community stakeholders, and Union members, signaling renewed momentum for unity and development in Onitsha.

Addressing the gathering, Agbogidi underscored the Union’s role as the bedrock of communal progress. He reminded all sons and daughters of Onitsha that membership in the OIU is universal, and urged full support for the new leadership whenever duty calls.

Accepting the mantle, newly inaugurated President General, Ezennia Engr. I.K. Iwenofu, committed to deepening the Union’s impact. He noted that a two-and-a-half-hour strategy session with Agbogidi ahead of the inauguration had sharpened his focus for the task.

The event also spotlighted the Values Reorientation Initiative of the Onitsha Advancement Foundation. At Agbogidi’s invitation, Chief Mike Areh, Onya Nyakanyaka, spoke on the Initiative’s drive to entrench positive values as a pillar of community development.

The proceedings were broadcast live by Imeobi Media, extending the reach of the milestone event beyond the palace grounds.
