Onitsha COVID -19 Response Team Distributes Government Palliatives.
Distribution of palliatives provided for youths in Onitsha metropolis by the Anambra State Government was undertaken last week over a three-days period by the Onitsha Covid-19 Response Team. A total of 800 10 kgs bags of rice were distributed to youths in the two local government areas in the metropolis. In this regard, 400 bags were distributed to youths in Onitsha North Local Government Area and the balance of 400 bags to youths in Onitsha South Local Government Area. Beneficiaries included Onitsha indigenes and non-indigenes including youths from Igala, Hausa and Yoruba communities in the metropolis. Distribution which took place at the Chuba Ikpeazu Stadium was in strict compliance with Covid -19 safety measures.
The Executive Chairman of the Onitsha North Local Government Area Hon. Patrick Agha Mba and other representatives of the Anambra State Government supervised the distribution. Chief Chulo Asika Akpe Olodi a joint-coordinator of the Onitsha Covid-19 Response Team and some members of the team’s steering committee which included Kpari Rita Melifonwu, field operations lead, and Sir Chike Ekweogwu President General of the Onitsha Improvement Union, were at present during the distribution exercise
It will be recalled that a couple of weeks ago 400 10 kgs bags of rice were distributed under the state governments scheme to persons of 85 years above. Distribution of palliatives provided directly by the Onitsha Covid-19 Response Team is expected to commence next week. Items scheduled for distribution include rice, beans, vegetable oil, sachet tomato paste, condiments, and milk powder.
